Abstract

Introduction: Mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI) is a common cause of disability that can result in physical, psychological, and cognitive impairment. Current treatments for mTBI are often ineffective or produce adverse side effects. Preliminary studies suggest that repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) can improve cognition, and rTMS is increasingly being used for the treatment of mood disorders. Here, we sought to investigate the feasibility and tolerability of using low frequency (LF) rTMS (suggested to be a safe protocol for people with a higher chance of seizures) in individuals with mTBI, and to study whether LF rTMS over the right dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (DLPFC) could help reduce post-concussion and cognitive symptoms in this patient population.
