Abstract

Introduction: Several aspects likely impact the effects of transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS). One aspect that has not been explored very much is the impact of brain morphometry. The goal of this exploratory study was to test whether brain volume and thickness influence the effects of tDCS on neurotransmitter levels. We previously reported that real as compared to sham tDCS applied over bilateral dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (DLPFC) elevated GABA levels in the right DLPFC (under the anode electrode) in patients with gambling disorders (Dickler et al., 2018). Here, we further explored whether brain volume and thickness played a role on this tDCS effect.
