Abstract
The interplay in functionality between the thyroid and the kidneys has been documented for many years now. Thyroid hormones effects on growth, development, and maintenance of kidney homeostasis are known and have been amply discussed in literature. The kidney has an important role in the metabolism of thyroid hormones. Impaired renal function and the resulting accumulation of uremic toxins may disturb thyroid physiology at various levels. This study reviews thyroid abnormalities in adult patients undergoing regular hemodialysis.
