Abstract

Acute pancreatitis is a rapid onset inflammatory process of the pancreas. The most common causes are gallstones and alcohol use. Other causes include drug-induced, hypertriglyceridemia, trauma, infectious. Sodium-glucose cotransporter-2 (SGLT2) inhibitors are a class of oral hypoglycemic agents which is approved by the FDA for treating diabetes and heart failure. SGLT2 inhibitors function through a novel mechanism of reducing renal tubular glucose reabsorption, producing a reduction in blood glucose without stimulating insulin release.
