Abstract

Latent autoimmune diabetes of adulthood (LADA) is often a challenging diagnosis as the age of onset and the initial period of insulin-independence point towards type II diabetes (T2DM). Its reported prevalence is about 2%-12% of all cases of adult diabetes. Similar to pediatric-onset diabetes the autoimmune response is generated by glutamic acid decarboxylase 65 (GAD65) antibodies or islet cell antibodies. Herein we describe the case of a middle-aged female with sudden onset diabetes who was diagnosed with LADA.
