Abstract

Myxedema coma is a rare medical emergency with high mortality rates when confirmed. Prompt recognition of symptoms as well as early initiation of thyroid supplementation is essential for survival benefits. Due to the widespread availability of thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) testing, presentations of myxedema coma and severe hypothyroidism have declined however we present a case of uncontrolled hypothyroidism that led to bradycardia, hypothermia, and eventual cardiac arrest.
