Abstract

Despite normalization of thyroid-stimulating hormone levels with thyroid hormone replacement therapy, many patients with hypothyroidism remain dissatisfied due to persistent symptoms. A common complaint is cognitive dysfunction, referred to by some as “brain fog,” although this label has been associated with other disorders. Our primary objectives were to characterize the prominent symptoms of brain fog associated with treated hypothyroidism, measure the correlation between symptom severity and patient satisfaction measures, and catalog factors that improve and/or worsen brain fog symptoms.
