Abstract
An approximate solution for absorption with irreversible second-order chemical reaction by the Danckwerts model is derived and discussed. This corresponds to the well known relation of van Krevelen and Hoftijzer for the film model. The derivation consists of developing a ‘bridging relation’ between concentrations of reactants and using this relation to obtain an explicit approximate expression for the enhancement factor. The resulting expression is more convenient than previous approximations, and it agrees as well or better with available numerical results. The method can be extended to other forms of chemical kinetics.
