Abstract

The u.v. absorption spectra of thiophene (C 4H 4S) between 225 and 246 nm were recorded at elevated temperatures. The absolute absorption cross sections for major features in this wavelength interval are reported for the temperatures 296, 323, 373, 423, 473, 573, 673 and 773 K. Vibrational structure was lost as the temperature approached 773 K. The thermal behavior of the spectra is compared to the expected thermal behavior based on previous band assignments.
