Abstract

Retinal is a chromophore molecule and has the possibility for the application to create novel nano-devices. In this work, we constructed the experiment system to measuring spectra of Langmuir films, and we executed to measure the spectra of Langmuir films of retinal. According to the results of the measured spectra, the changes of the peak intensities would be due to the variation of the tilt angle of retinal molecules on the subphase surface. The results of the analysis using the molecular orientation model suggested that the retinal molecules tilted to the subphase surface, when the film was condensed. As the film was condensed moreover, the molecules became standing by the intermolecular forces.
