Abstract

Absorption of phosphorus-32 by the leaves of soybean plants of different ages was studied. It was shown that absorption by the leaves including the cotyledons was greatest by immature leaves and absorption decreased with increasing leaf age till a fairly steady state was reached. Immature second and third trifoliate leaves did not translocate phosphorus, but applications of P-32 made to young cotyledons and primary leaves did result in phosphorus transport.
