Abstract

An apparatus and experimental procedure are described for obtaining the complex electric permittivity of a liquid at microwave frequencies. Equations are developed by means of which the electric dipole moment and relaxation time of a polar molecule in a non-polar solvent may be evaluated from these measurements. Results are presented and discussed for five typical solutes in benzene solution at 25.0°.
