Abstract

AbstractA recently developed and efficient absorption contactor was evaluated, using alternative physical absorption liquids that are more economical, environmentally friendly, easier to recycle, untested and have lower energy requirements compared to commercial absorption solutions for capturing carbon dioxide. For this purpose, CO2 was captured using n‐butanol and ethyl acetate in an originally designed structured packed column. Mass transfer coefficients were determined at different gas and liquid velocities. The results are correlated in terms of dimensionless numbers, such as ShL = 0.01283ReG1.4ReLScL1/3, with a regression coefficient of 0.992.
