Abstract

Within the framework of the effective mass approximation, the energy of the ground state of an electron-hole pair was obtained by the variational method as a function of the radius of the nanocrystal of cadmium sulfide. Determined that the absorption peaks of the nanosystem are caused by interband transitions of electrons from quantum-confined energy levels, located in the valence band of a colloidal nanocrystal of cadmium sulfide, to quantum-confined energy levels, located in the conduction band of CdS nanocrystal.
