Abstract
The adsorption behaviour of 4,4′-bipyridyl at a gold/water interface has been studied. Measurements of capacitance changes and the inhibition of gold oxide formation have been made. The reorientation of 4,4′-bipyridyl molecule from flat to perpendicular at about −0.1 V vs. SCE is proposed and the importance of the orientation of 4,4′-bipyridyl molecule in promoting electron transfer between cycochrome c and a gold electrode discussed.
