Abstract
A relatively narrow diffuse band at about 212.5 nm was observed in both emission and absorption spectra of the cadmium vapour. The band was identified as a transition involving the 1 u Rydberg state correlated with the asymptote 6 3 S 1 + 5 1 S 0 and the 0 g + ground state of Cd 2. Analysis yielded some data concerning the previously unknown outer potential energy well of the upper state and the oscillator strength f ( R).
