Abstract

Absolute absorption measurements were obtained for eight bands (v=0, v'=4-11) of the (forbidden) Herzberg I (A3 Sigma u+-X3 Sigma g-) system of molecular oxygen. The spectra were recorded at very high dispersion (reciprocal dispersion 0.6 AA mm-1) and instrumental effects were eliminated by self-broadening the absorption lines. The individual band measurements yield an electronic oscillator strength felabs (Herzberg I) approximately 10-7.
