Abstract

Herein describes a composite mechanical system of absolute pressure measurement and density regulation of a flowing gas target used in high precision nuclear scattering experiments. Absolute pressures of one torr are read accurately to 10 −3 torr. The sensitivity could readily be extended to 10 −5 torr. The regulator controls the exit rate of the gas in such a way that the gas density in the scattering chamber is maintained constant inspite of variations in temperature.
