Abstract

Surface deviations of polished optical flats related to a mathematical plan are determined by absolute flatness testing. Absolutely tested flats can be used as master surfaces for calibration of measuring instruments e.g. of automatic interferometers. The measuring accuracy of such an instrument is then determined by the measuring accuracy of the absolute testing method but n o t by the flatness of the master surface.
