Abstract

The notion of absolute continuity for linear forms onB *-algebras is introduced and investigated. The main result is a general Radon-Nikodym type theorem in the context of B*-algebras which extends a well-known theorem of S. Sakai and has diverse applications in the theory of operator algebras.
