Abstract

Heart failure is a complex clinical syndrome that requires the interaction of many organ systems for its development, including the heart, renal, and neuroendocrine systems. The heart may be severely abnormal yet symptoms of heart failure may not develop. The present case illustrates, by its absence, the essential role of neuroendocrine sympathetic activation and venous tone in the development of the congestive heart failure syndrome.
