Abstract

This paper presents authors' considerations on anti-particle design and a type of slider air bearing surface (ABS) design with anti-surface borne particle function for load/unload based head-disk systems. The ABS is designed in such a way that the leading edge of ABS is wedge-shaped. The relationship between the ABS wall angle and the energy loss factor when a particle collides with a slider is discussed, aiming to avoid particles being stuck at ABS wall edge. The flying characteristics and load/unload performances of the slider are studied. The proposed ABS design is of good flying characteristics, satisfying load/unload performances, plus anti-contamination function.
