Abstract

ABSTRACT Questions are raised concerning a previously published Abraham model correlation for describing the direct partitioning behaviour of solutes between water and 2,2,5,5-tetramethyloxolane. Numerous errors were found in the numerical values of the solute descriptors used in deriving the published correlation. The Abraham model correlation has been re-determined using the corrected solute descriptors. Principal Component Analysis of our derived water-to-2,2,5,5-tetramethyloxolane correlation with Abraham model correlations for other water-to-organic solvent partition systems confirms the suggestion of Byrne and co-workers that the green solvent 2,2,5,5-tetramethyloxolane can replace the solvent toluene, certainly as far as partition-related processes are concerned.
