Abstract

Abstract Abraham Colles (1773-1843), was an outstanding Irish physician, surgeon and anatomist. He made significant contributions to the study of human anatomy, surgery, orthopedic surgery and urology and also published three books and over a dozen surgical papers. He made anatomical discoveries, many of which were named after him, among which were the Colles’s inguinal reflex ligament, Colles’ space and the Colles’ fascia in the perineal region. Among his best known contributions is his description of the distal fracture of the radius, subsequently named the Colles’s fracture.
