He wrote three monographs dedicated to Martin Buber’s thought, served as editor of volume 11 of Martin Buber’s Werkausgabe (Schriften zur politischen Philosophie und zur Sozialphilosophie), and is also the author of several essays and translations regarding authors from the Jewish philosophy and culture of the XX century (among which Arendt, Buber, Derrida, Landauer, S. Zweig). His current research deals with the concept of reconciliation after Auschwitz.Martin Leiner is director of the Jena Center for Reconciliation Studies (JCRS) at Friedrich Schiller University Jena and professor of Systematic Theology and Ethics. He is the leader of the DFG-project “Hearts of Flesh–Not Stone.” He received his Ph.D. in Heidelberg University with Prof. Theißen on “Psychologie und Exegese” (published by Gütersloh 1995) about the introduction of psychological concepts, methods, and results of research to understand better the New Testament. His habilitation was in Mainz on Martin Buber and his reception in protestant theology. Published as Gottes Gegenwart, Gütersloh 2000. He published a manual with methods for systematic theology and philosophy of religion (Methodischer Leitfaden Systematische Theologie und Religionsphilosophie, Göttingen 2008). Since 2008, Professor Leiner has been working on transdisciplinary Reconciliation Studies from a global perspective. In 2013, Prof. Leiner founded the Jena Center for Reconciliation Studies (JCRS). Dr. Zeina M. Barakat is a Jerusalem-born Palestinian scholar who holds a doctorate from Friedrich-Schiller University in Jena, Germany. Since 2019 she is a Research Associate fellow at the Von Hügel Institute, University of Cambridge, and undertaking postdoctoral research. She taught at al-Quds University in Jerusalem, Europa-Universität Flensburg, and Friedrich-Schiller University in Jena. She is the author of many academic books and articles including, Sexual Harassment (2012), one of the few books in Arabic dealing with this taboo topic in Arab society. She is a co-author of Holocaust: Human Agony: Is there a Way out of Violence (2012) and co-editor of Teaching Empathy and Reconciliation in the Midst of Conflict (2016). She is also a contributing author of Jerusalem from the Lens of Wasatia (2010), The Future of Jerusalem (2012), and Israelis and Palestinians: Contested Narratives (2013). Her book, From Heart of Stone to Heart of Flesh: Evolutionary journey from Extremism to Moderation, (2017), and co-editor of Islam and Democracy: Law, Gender and the West (2022), and co-editor Reconciliation and Refugees: The Academic Alliance for Reconciliation Studies in the Middle East and North Africa I, (2022). Her most recent book, Envisioning Reconciliation: Signs of Hope for the Middle East, was published in (2022). Her current position is the Executive Director of the European Graduate School for Peace and Conflict Resolution at Europa-Universität Flensburg, Germany.Michael Sternberg is a postdoctoral fellow at the Martin Springer Center for Conflict Studies at the Ben-Gurion University of the Negev. His studies focus on the contribution of dialogue, community-based strategies, and action research to conflict transformation. He is interested in the interrelation between intergroup and ingroup conflict in the context of intractable conflicts and in potential strategies and interventions that may contribute to socio-political discourse attuned to openness towards the other and readiness for reconciliation. He received a Ph.D. in conflict management and resolution from Ben-Gurion University. Michael holds an MA in applied conflict transformation studies from Novi Sad University (Serbia) and sociology and social anthropology from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.Boaz Hameiri is a Senior Lecturer in the Program in Mediation and Conflict Management at Tel Aviv University. He received his Ph.D. in social psychology at Tel Aviv University in 2019. Between 2018 and 2020, he was a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Peace and Conflict Neuroscience Lab at the University of Pennsylvania. His research program consists of examining different psychological barriers to attitude change and conflict resolution and the development of psychological interventions to address these barriers and promote better intergroup relations and conflict resolution.
