Abstract

The article examines the question of the appropriateness of further use of the term «orphans» in Russian legislation. Arguments from various fields of scientific knowledge are given in favor of deciding to abandon this term. It is pointed out that in modern conditions the legal status of an orphan is practically absorbed by a more general status - a child left without parental care.
