Abstract

In this paper, after briefly presenting Andrea Parlangeli’s book Uno spirito puro—Ennio De Giorgi, I recall, through my memories as a student, the figure of Ennio De Giorgi in the 1960s, soon after his arrival in Pisa, showing the extraordinary spirit of collaboration and incitement to research he managed to bring about. Finally, I describe the birth of Gamma-convergence, one of the most celebrated theories De Giorgi created, which had a great diffusion in the mathematical world.
