Abstract

This work discusses the experimental results concerning the physical mechanism of generation of the large-scale convective motions in a helical turbulent medium. The experimental setup for studying turbulent convection in a rotating fluid layer and the observation and measurement procedure are described. The setup design developed by the authors makes it possible to change independently the Coriolis parameter and the magnitude of helicity introduced in the layer. The experiments show that introduction of external helicity in the layer of turbulent fluid involving the developed large-scale convective vortex changes intensity of the vortex.
