Abstract
<i>To the Editor</i>.—The editorial on abortion liberalization by Dr. Melvin Taymor in the March 1971 issue of theArchiveswas most inappropriate. Let the proponents of abortion have their own journal rather than contaminate the pages of one devoted to the alleviation of suffering and the prolongation of life. The only sure thing that "therapeutic abortion" prevents is the continuing life of one human being, one who is too small to defend himself, but who has the same potential for love, happiness, and intellectual and spiritual growth that all of us possess. Experience in countries with liberal abortion laws has shown, contrary to what one might expect, that there has been an actual rise in the number of illegal abortions. The number of legal abortions becomes increasingly high, also, as people forsake conventional methods of birth control. The letters of Drs. Sheeran and Smyth were sent to Dr. Taymor
