Abstract
If abortion is now (2024) decriminalized North and South of the Irish border, a certain number of legal and non‑legal obstacles prevent Irish women from accessing services of a free, safe and legal termination of pregnancy. This article proposes to examine the impact of multi‑level governance on abortion legislation in order to understand how historical, political, geographical, religious and ideological divisions have limited women’s and human rights in terms of access to bodily autonomy.Scrutinizing the triangular relation between England, Northern Ireland and the Republic Ireland, this article will show that England has been the major focal point of contention when it comes to abortion legislation.
