Abstract

Down syndrome is a genetic disorder that occurs at an average frequency of 1 in 800 births. This syndrome, which develops as a result of the triplication of chromosome 21, is associated with characteristic facial features, mild to moderate intellectual disability, physical growth delays, characteristic facial features, low muscle tone. Orthodontic treatment in a patient with Down syndrome represents a real challenge, both in terms of the complex manifestations of this syndrome (whether they are systemic manifestations or strictly oral manifestations) and in terms of collaboration with specialists in other medical fields and more. This case illustrates the effectiveness of cooperation within the multidisciplinary treatment team and also the good collaboration with the pacient and especially with his parents.

În vederea instituirii şi reuşitei tratamentului ortodontic în cazul unui pacient cu sindrom Down este necesară cumularea eforturilor şi cunoştinţelor medicului pediatru, ale celui de familie, ale ortodontului, ale psihologului şi logopedului, în cadrul echipei multidisciplinare fiecare dintre aceştia având un rol binedefinit.
