Abstract

ELECTROPHYSIOLOGICAL experiments on kittens1–3 and Amphibia4 have suggested that the organisation of interneuronal connections undergoes extensive modification when the afferent input is altered during certain critical periods of development. Here we provide evidence which indicates that normal visual input is necessary for maintenance of the characteristic receptive field properties of retinal ganglion cells in adult amphibians.
