Abstract
This monograph on sexual abnormalities presents a well-organised and up-to-date summary of errors in sex differentiation. The first two chapters recount briefly the current concepts of normal sex differentiation and cellular replication. Subsequent chapters consider in orderly form the various errors in gonadal differentiation and their chromosomal basis, male and female pseudohermaphroditism, disorders of puberty, and summary chapters on diagnosis and management. The substrate for this review is the vast clinical experience of the author and his associates in the Endocrine Clinic of the Massachusetts General Hospital. Although the author obviously writes from a profound knowledge of the theoretical basis of each of the conditions which he describes, the book is not primarily addressed to either endocrinologists or geneticists.
