Abstract

A case of bronchogenic carcinoma with abnormal antidiuresis is reported. Treatment of the patient with 750 ml. of a 5 per cent solution of glucose in water intravenously, alone, and with ethanol, atropine sulfate, and cortisone acetate failed to produce diuresis; a 3 per cent saline solution, however, did so for unexplained reasons. Assay of the tumor revealed the presence of small amounts of arginine vasopressinlike activity. This appears to be the first report of assay of an untreated, surgically removed, bronchogenic carcinoma for vasopressin-like activity.
