Abstract

In X-ray fluorescence analysis the chemical composition of a specimen may be inferred from the wavelength and intensity of its X-ray fluorescence radiation. If the specimen is in powder form and consists of several components, the intensity of the fluorescence will be influenced by, among other things, the size of the grains of the powder. In the present paper a formula for the intensity taking the grain size into account is derived on the base of a simple model. In order to prove the usefulness of this formula to describe the relationship between the concentrations of the elements in the specimen and their intensities two sets of measurement have been made and satisfactory results have been obtained.
