Abstract
This 91-page book in German contains a detailed and comprehensive review of measles, its epidemiology, morbidity, complications, and mortality in many parts of the world with special reference to data accumulated in Germany, Nigeria, Chile, Russia, and the United States. Measles virus vaccines, their source, production, potency, and efficacy are discussed in great detail and with clarity. Live and killed virus vaccine, the more attenuated measles vaccines of Schwarz, the Beckenham vaccine, the Belgrade 62 of Milavanovic and the Smorodintsev vaccine are discussed and compared with the Edmonston B vaccines, and with combinations of live and killed vaccine. Considerable stress is placed on the inactivated vaccine and the purified hemagglutination substance. Paragraph eight of section C on measles vaccines reads as follows: "For individual vaccination the hemagglutinin-vaccine is especially recommended."
