Abstract
We present an Abelian model for mesons based on the interaction of a charged Nambu string with a U(1) gauge field. The concept of effective quarks is introduced and the model leads to the semi- relativistic equation ((p/sup 2/+m/sub 1/ /sup 2/)/sup 1/2/+(p/sup 2/ +m/sub 2/ /sup 2/)/sup 1/2/+ar-b/r)psi(r ) = Epsi(r) to describe mesons.
