Abstract

This is a pedagogical introduction to abelian and non-abelian anyons, where we discuss basic concepts in anyon physics, such as the idea of quantum statistics and introduce the idea of the braid group. We explain what is meant by braiding and fusing of anyons. We then briefly discuss non-abelian anyons where we use the one dimensional Kitaev model as a prototypical example to produce Majorana modes at the edge. We then explicitly show how braiding these Majoranas lead to rotations in the ground state manifold. We end with a brief discussion of the future prospects of the field.
