Abstract

Question: A 23-year-old woman presented to the gastroenterology outpatient clinic with severe and progressively worsening abdominal pain. Her pain was exacerbated by only a few mouthfuls of food, and even drinking water could instigate pain that would last for several hours. Her inability to eat eventually required parenteral nutrition. She additionally experienced nausea, and described postprandial diarrhea approximately 2-4 times a day, which sometimes alternated with constipation. She reported a decreased urine output and difficulty voiding her bladder.
