Abstract

Desmoid tumor is an old term derived from the Greek «desmos» which means aponeurosis, tendon. By this term we mean an invasive, permeative and progressive tumor, uniformly composed of fibroblasts-fibrocytes and abundant collagen, frequently located on the deep soft tissues, and characterized by an age and localization differing from those previously listed (infantile fibromatoses) and from those of palmar and plantar fibromatosis (see pseudotumoral lesions). In other words, the histological aspect is not enough to characterize a D.T.: for example, the histological aspect of D.T. is the same as that of a Dupuytren’s palmar fibromatosis.
