Abstract
The photoionisation dissociation study of the ground and first excited states of N 2O + has been carried out. The potential curves of different states of N 2O + and their spin-orbit coupling have been calculated. Predissociation phenomena are shown to be involved. The ground state X̃ 2Π is predissociated by a 2 4Σ − state; the coupling near the curve cross-over is about 60 cm −1. The first excited state à 2Σ + is predissociated (towards NO + + N dissociation) by a 1 4Π state on the one hand and by a 2 4Σ − state on the other hand. The couplings in the neighbourhood of the cross-over are weak (5 cm −1), due to the multiconfigurational wavefunctions of the states.
