Abstract
Ab initio configuration interaction calculations have been carried out for important regions on the potential energy surfaces of the C + H 2 system. The implications of the results for the reactivity of both thermal and energetic 3P, 1D, and 1S carbon atoms are discussed. Preliminary study does not reveal any low-energy pathways for the C( 3P) + H 2 reaction.
