Abstract

The local magnetic moments and hyperfine fields at the Fe sites in R 2Fe 14B (R = Nd, Gd, Tb, Dy, Ho, Er) are calculated within the framework of the linear muffing tin orbital theory and the local spin density approximation, and the results are compared with those from neutron scattering and Mössbauer experiments. It is shown that the hyperfine fields are not proportional to the local moments, in contrast to the assumption usually made for the analysis of Mössbauer data.
