Abstract

Abstract In survival analysis, the well‐known Cox regression is based on modeling the hazard rate. This method assumes a proportional hazard structure. Aalen's additive model, however, assumes a linear parametric structure on the hazard rate. This approach may be justified within counting process theory, and produces martingale type estimates. These are used for plotting purposes and shows time‐varying effects of covariates on survival. The plots are easy to compute and have a well‐developed statistical theory. There exist several software packages for carrying out the analysis.
