Abstract

This article discusses Aage Bøttger Sørensen’s contributions to quantitative sociology and mathematical modeling of social processes, with an emphasis on the published works in social stratification in the 1974–1979 period. It draws three lessons from his modeling approach: (1) The frequent use of a reduced-form equation for estimation; (2) the use of few variables in the regression equation; and (3) the emphasis on dynamic models. The article ends by discussing the character of Sørensen’s empirical work and its place in quantitative sociological research.
