Abstract

Gynecomastia is a benign proliferation of mammary glandular breast tissue in males. It tends to happen due to imbalance between oestrogens and androgens. Increased free oestrogen to free testosterone ratio is believed to be the cause for the gynecomastia. It is more common during neonatal and pubertal periods. It could also happen be due to an underlying pathology such as tumours, hyperthyroidism, malnutrition, hypogonadism, chronic liver and kidney disease or drug induced.
