Methods: All subjects from Ganzi Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Sichuan, signed the informed consent. which including Seda (altitude 3000m), Baiyu (altitude 3500m), Ganzi (altitude 3500m)and Jiulong (altitude 3000m). We totally investigated 1200 subjects in this cross-sectional study from to September 2014 to January to 2018. Participants received questionnaires and physical examination. Blood pressure (BP) was recorded three times after 5 min of rest with the mean taken as the final BP. Hypertension was defined according the 2010 Chinese guidelines for the management of hypertension. Results: The average age of Tibetan area residents in this study, aged 18–88, 54.9% female, was 48.06 ± 16.64 years old. Prevalence of hypertension was 40.7 % in this cross-sectional study. The prevalence of HTN was 39.2% Tibetan residents and was 46.4%, 43.5%, 46.6%, 21.7% for Jiulong, Ganzi, Baiyu and Seda respectively. The rate of awareness, treatment, and control of hypertension were 52.1%, 31.5%, 3.5% respectively. Multiple-factor analysis found that age, higher hip circumference (OR = 1.044, 95%CI:1.050–1.873), family history of HTN (OR = 1.613 95%CI:1.136–2.290), drinking buttered tea with salt (OR = 1.402 95%CI:1.050–1.873) were related to hypertension when adjusting confounding factors including sex, altitude, race, education level and lifestyle which including current smoking, drinking alcohol, meat intake and eating vegetables and fruits. Conclusion: Prevalence of hypertension in Sichuan Tibetan was significantly higher than the national level. Unhealthy lifestyles and higher hip circumference are risk factors of HTN in this area.
