High dose oral iron (Fe) supplementation is recommended for treatment of Fe deficiency following gastric bypass (GB). In non-surgery populations, high dose oral Fe competitively inhibits intestinal absorption of copper and zinc. Therefore, in GB patients, we investigated the effect of high dose Fe supplementation for 8 weeks on copper and zinc status.
