Abstract

PIV systems are now widely used for fluid flow measurement applicable to low speed up to even high speed flow using a double-pulse and double-frame PIV, large scale to micro scale flows, using so called a micro PIV, and so on. In these standard PIV, a high-resolution CCD camera and a double pulse Nd:YAG laser are used. The image resolution is at least 1000×1000 pixel. Sometimes, 2000×2000 pixel CCD can be used. Although the spatial resolution had been improved significantly, the temporal resolution remains about 15Hz. Therefore, using current PIV system, only the statistical analysis is usually carried out. That is, it is inconvenient to catch a time history of unsteady fluid flow fields. In the present paper, a new dynamic PIV system has been successfully developed based on the combination of a high-speed CMOS camera and a high-speed pulse laser. This system was applied to the mist jet flow. The history of vector maps, for instance, are discussed in detail.
