Abstract

Objectives: As the judging-mark (we called it BP auscultation sound) of BP measurement, we have not clarified the origin and nature of Korotkoff-sound for many years. our resonance vibration theory of BP measurement believes that the judging-mark comes from the vibration of closing heart valves, and its nature is resonance vibration. Methods: Using phonocardiogram devices and placing the heart sound sensor at brachial artery, we recorded all the sound (or vibration) waveforms at time of both measuring BP or not. Using the devices which show synchronization sound graphs of heart and artery (one heart sound sensor was attached to the strongest beating place of precordial region, while the other was placed at brachial artery),we recorded simultaneous waveforms. All these recordings are called phonarteriogram. Results: On the unmeasured arterial phonarteriogram, three types of waveforms were recorded, which called main-peak, post-peak and front-peak separately, and the waveform of main-peak did not keep the same amplitude. When measuring BP, the waveform of BP auscultation sound was recorded. On the synchronization sound graph of heart and artery, when not measuring BP, the waveform of first heart sound was corresponding to main-peak of artery, and the waveform of second heart sound was corresponding to post-peak of artery. However, the waveform of BP auscultation sound was always appeared at main-peak when measuring BP. Conclusion: The main-peak, the BP auscultation sound and the first heart sound are homologous, while the post-peak and the second heart sound are homologous. These findings prove that the opinions of resonance vibration theory of BP measurement are correct. Perhaps, the amplitude of main-peak is an index of blood pressure fluctuation.
